IQ FireWatch is the wildfire detection business of IQ Technologies for Earth and Space GmbH in Berlin, formerly IQ wireless GmbH. Its sensor units rotate through 360 degrees on towers and photograph the surroundings, and software combining algorithms and AI looks for smoke in the images. The technology was developed with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the first system went into service in Brandenburg in 2003. More than 200 systems now monitor forest areas in eight German states. The company also builds radio communication systems for small satellites.
